Postgraduate Students: In-house couch surfing

We have set up a network of postgraduate students within the department who can offer accommodation for the night of the 14th of June. As much as possible, we’ll try to provide proper bedding, but couch options may be available. There will only be a few spots available for this and it is aimed mainly at PG students. This will also be a good way for you to interact and network with PhD students at the Institute of Communications Studies. If you are interested in this arrangement, please get in touch with conference assistant organiser, Toussaint Nothias (, quoting whether you are also interested in couch arrangements. Slots will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis and is aimed at students who are not receiving support from their department/school/university to attend the conference. A dedicated facebook page has been set-up to connect Leeds hosts with conference participants.

Couch Surfing in Leeds

For young researchers who are tight on their budget – and don’t mind alternative travelling arrangement – couch surfing is another and cheaper option:,-0.46979249903626086,53.60217749095596,-1.694006500963739,8/mode/H/hosting/1/admin/all?locale=en_US

You must join the couch surfing website in order to interact with “Leeds” group users. As a general advice when doing couch surfing, we would advise you to choose your potential hosts carefully. Some hosts will want to hang out a lot, others will be very busy. Choose someone whose expectations match yours. Finally, make sure that the sleeping arrangements and rules of the house are going to be a good fit for you. If you have never used couch surfing and are a bit worried about using it for the first time, it might better to look for same gender hosts.
